Thinking as an architect, the illustrator kept a clear, logical system, and the stylisation of her drawings was indeed very moderate compared to the works of her peers.
Taida Balčiūnienė is considered one of the classic illustrators of children’s books. After finishing her architecture studies, she took an artistic turn, for which we can all thank her musicologist friend Vida Krakauskaitė, who urged Taida to illustrate her book “Jaunasis pianistas” [The Young Pianist]. After that, she got many clients from State’s Fictional Literature Publishing House, also publishing houses like “Vyturys” and “Šviesa”. Overall, she illustrated around 50 books and textbooks. The artist took part in exhibitions in Paris, Bologna Book Fair, and her works are kept in Lithuanian National Art Museum.
