Marija Ladigaitė-Vildžiūnienė

1931
Idyllic, airy illustrations by this author serve as a home for dreamy characters.
Violeta Palčinskaitė, NAMAI NAMUČIAI, 1984

Ladigaitė-Vildžiūnienė was a fan of simplicity, both in her works and daily life. The play of rhythm in nature inspires her, and perhaps that’s why her compositions have dancing lines and shapes, different textures.

The artist was lucky to avoid exile as a child, but her father was shot and her mother spent long years in Siberia. Ladigaitė-Vildžiūnienė says her childhood ended when she was nine, and the mythically bright illustrations became a certain continuation of her childhood days. She uses ink, pencils, watercolours, and screen printing techniques to create an idyllic image.
