Laima Skerstonaitė

1926–2004
A game of spots – that’s how the artist plays with her illustrations.
Algimantas Zurba, NULĖPAUSIS IR STRIUKUMBUKAS, 1985

She highlights texture, shape, and reveals the true feel, all by employing spots that contrast with lines. Skerstonaitė creates miracle-like visuals – you kind of see it all through mist, and the characters seem to merge together in non-existent time.

In 1952 Skerstonaitė graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts of Lithuanian Art Institute. The author created many graphic compositions, also watercolour works like portraits, landscapes, abstractions, and has illustrated a great deal of books. Her most important piece of work is “Lietuvos paukščiai” [Lithuanian Birds] by Vytautas Logminas, which includes around 300 illustrations. Her creations are kept in Lithuanian Art Museum.
