The project’s story began in my parent’s country house. Let me briefly tell you about it.
Many country houses in Lithuania become family archives that preserve various objects from unusable cupboards to bedsheets and kids’ stuff left for future generations. Our cabin housed my childhood books as well – after becoming a mother myself, I started going through those books, hoping to pass them on to my son. While looking at the books as an adult, I discovered the beauty of Lithuanian illustrators’ work from the second part of the 20th century – it had significant artistic value.
Childhood memories merged with a professional’s approach and a mother’s experience, has resulted in a project shaped like a puzzle. I have named it “Mosaic” and have let my imagination run free, connecting illustrations from my childhood books. At times even my son Jonas’ spontaneous drawings have found a way into the puzzle.
The goal of this digital archive is to pay more attention to the works of Lithuania’s authors from the second part of the 20th century, and to introduce the creators themselves, digitising part of the artworks and inviting the society to discover them.
