Domicelė Tarabildienė

1912–1985
Even though the artist lived and created in troubled times – during the war and after it, her illustrations reflect a sensitive take on the world, an ability to empathise with others and celebrate life.
PIRMOJI MOKYKLA, 1965

Tarabildienė presents purified emotions, creating them using her own unique dynamics where the background delivers additional meanings to the foreground. The symbols in the background help both kids and adults perceive the world better.

Tarabildienė studied sculpture at Kaunas Art School, graduating from it with a recommendation to continue her studies abroad and therefore doing so in Paris. She won a gold medal for her book illustrations at the International Art and Technology Exhibition in Paris in 1937, and received a honorary prize for her ethnographic dolls at the same event. In 1962 she was awarded the title of an Honorary Artist of Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic.
